Milano, Italy - April 2024
What if I told you that after almost 30 years living in the province of Milan, I found myself a tourist in my own city? I know, I know, a little unfortunate on my end - but we made up for it.
That Saturday afternoon, one of my closest friends had officially joined the club of 30-year-olds. For the occasion, Sara and Simona had turned Milan into a giant playground for a treasure hunt. An epic idea.
We were divided into teams, each with an embarrassing sticker of the birthday boy and a sequence of clues, riddles and puzzles to solve. Of course, the first to arrive at the place indicated by the coordinates would win. Easy no?
After finding the first two places, the real discovery began: statues and monuments I didn't know about, traffic circles with cemetery complexes from the 1600s at the center... for example... did you know that the first intercom in Italy is right in Milan? (I won't reveal what shape it is so you have an excuse to pass by it the next time you happen to be in town).
The competition among the teams also added some sparkle to the afternoon. When we finally arrived at our destination, it was really fun to hear everyone's backstories.
Our group, without going too far, made an epic comeback thanks to the legendary Uber van game - risking running over an opposing team, but luckily we had tinted windows! Others were passed off as gas technicians as they entered a park bar that, alas, was not the final destination. For a moment we were three teams on the same streetcar and tried to knock each other off with little result.
Best of all, the birthday boy was overjoyed and totally unaware that we would be at the airport in a few days for a surprise trip to Lanzarote. Opsssss!
