Jordan - June 2023
Jordan is an incredible country that offers so much, from Petra, one of the wonders of the world, to the Dead Sea and the Red Sea, as well as having history, culture and food such as chickpea hummus, which was served to us at lunch and dinner during our trip.
But the story I want to tell you about and the place I want to tell you about starts at the gates of the Wadi Rum, the Jordanian desert, very different from how one might imagine it or from how we normally conceive it, it is not just sand, the dunes alternate with real mountains, cracks in the rock, which make this place unique.
We are a group of guys who find ourselves in that place after having booked a trip with weroad, amidst anxieties and emotions only knowing that we have chosen the same place.
Only then do we discover that it takes very little to break the ice and make every moment of that holiday unique.
On the morning of 14 June 2023, we are scheduled to spend a day in the desert with a typical dinner; to prepare ourselves as well as possible the previous day we stocked up on local beers.
Before arriving, however, we make an unexpected stop.
Our coordinator takes us to a local bakery where, after helping to knead and bake the bread, between one dance and the next, we are offered an aperitif with all the local stuff, including the inevitable humus.
With a full belly, we set off again. Arriving at the gates of the desert, we abandon our minibus for a more local vehicle, the camel, with which we reach some tents where we are offered tea.
From there we move by jip where we are accompanied by the locals around the entire Wadi rum, here we visit from natural rock arches to sand dunes from which we can admire the panorama around us. The day continues amidst laughter and walks.
At the end we are taken to our camp where we are served a typical Bedouin dinner that evening, cooked under the sand.
Before that, however, we decided to admire the sunset by standing on one of the many rocky crusts that formed the frame.
And here we are, the desert, the sunset and a lot of laughter, a lot of chatter that makes that moment and that holiday unique, the landscape is a wonderful backdrop, where the sun slowly hides behind the rocks further coloring the sand below red.
The evening ends with dinner, definitely not unforgettable, the chicken overcooked and really very dry, and with the starry night; but of that moment will remain forever the group and the many laughs in the light of that wonderful sunset.
